In the last ten years there has been a major transformation in how English is taught in India. Students are no longer expected to simply learn grammar and do well on written exams, today schools need to develop communicators who can express themselves clearly and confidently, share their opinions and contribute to the academic or professional settings they will find themselves in.

Additionally, students who were shy and reluctant to participate had very few opportunities to practice their speaking skills.
